Turkey is now the 6th Top Medical Tourism Destination in the world

Istanbul’s medical infrastructure, including 233 hospitals with 32K bed capacity and as being home to 17 faculties of medicine in its 53 universitiesmakes Istanbul a unique meeting point for Medical Congresses.

Medical congresses take the first place with over 20% in Istanbul. As being among the World’s Top 10 Congress Destinations, the city hosted around 130 international congresses with 75.864 delegates in 2014 (ICCA) and over 20% of these congresses were Medical. By the end of November 2015, the city welcomed over 40.000 delegates and almost 45% of the delegates were part of Medical Congresses.

Stronger collabrations

As General Manager of Istanbul CVB, Ozgul Ozkan Yavuz comments: “Numbers in 2016 seem even higher. Istanbul have already confirmed 47 international congresses for 2016 and figures show that 40% of the delegates will be part of medical congresses. We are expecting the figures to rise much higher in coming months. We are pleased with the quantity and quality of the medical congresses that we held and will be hosting. Just to name a few this year, we hosted Association for the Study of Liver -APASL meeting with 4.000 delegates, European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation –EBMT with 4.000 delegates as well. In upcoming years, we are excited to be hosting the European Society of Cardiology with approximately 2.000 delegates, WFNS World Congress of Neurosurgery with 8.000 delegates and World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery –WPCCS with over 3.000 delegates. As Istanbul CVB, we are aiming to have stronger collabrations with local medical assocations and stregthen our position by hosting even more medical congresses in our city”

 Top Medical Tourism Destination

Turkey is now the 6th Top Medical Tourism Destination in the world. Hundred of thousands of foreign patients each year are now travelling to receive treatment in private hospitals in Turkish cities, especially in Istanbul from eye surgery to dental treatment, plastic surgery to hair transplant.

Joint International Commission (JCI) accredited 29 hospitals operating in Istanbul including Acibadem Hospital and MedicalPark Hospital, which equals to 4% of all JCI’s accredited health care organizations in the world.
